Meet My Market

Which Social Media Platform is Right for Me?

Which social media website is the best? Does my business need a Facebook AND a LinkedIn? If I have my own Facebook profile, why do I need a separate page for my company?

Do any of these questions sound familiar?

Social media is a great way to reach new markets and to nurture your customer community, but a business that grows on Instagram might not find the same success on LinkedIn. That of course does not mean that Instagram is any better of a platform than LinkedIn, rather that every social media platform has a unique value proposition for every business!

Start Where Your Customers Spend Their Time

Consider where your customers spend their time online. If you cater to the younger Millennial and Gen Z market, TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram might offer the highest concentration of your customers. If you provide a B2B service, LinkedIn and Facebook might yield the most return; whereas if your business sells a tangible product, your time may be better spent on Pinterest and Instagram where users are more likely to be searching for consumer goods.

Take a fashion designer for example. Fashion brands tend to create a lot of visually striking content for their products. Fashion designers and retailers perform well on visual platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook. They can build strong followings on these platforms and appeal to shoppers with similar interests. In contrast, a B2B marketer working for a manufacturer might find more success on LinkedIn and Twitter for building an audience of qualified leads.

Get Rolling

Video platforms are essential for catching your audience’s attention. YouTube has the benefit of being both a social media platform where users can comment on your video and a free video hosting platform giving you the option to post your YouTube videos on other social media sites. For videos under 60 seconds, TikTok is the current rising star. This short-form video app is most popular with a younger audience and boasts nearly 100 million monthly active users who make it the second-biggest app in terms of consumer spend according to Hootsuite’s Digital 2021 Trends Report.

Another One for the Toolbox

No matter which social media platforms you select for your business, you will find no shortage of tools to help you manage your social presence! A new favorite for managing Instagram posts is Later. Later has a great visual scheduler and integrations with Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and now LinkedIn too! If your company is investing in a CRM to help manage the sales funnel, keep an eye out for social media marketing features! HubSpot has a particularly user-friendly social media management interface.
